Toby Longhurst is an emerging British composer for screen, celebrated for his emotive and versatile approach to music. A graduate of the Royal College of Music with a Master’s in Composition for Screen, Toby specialises in crafting compelling soundscapes that seamlessly blend orchestral, jazz, and electronic elements to elevate storytelling across film, television, and video games.

Toby’s passion for music and film emerged early, leading him to explore how composers evoke emotion through scores in his teenage years. This curiosity deepened during his studies at the University of Southampton, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Composition and Piano, encompassing both classical and jazz disciplines. His education also included a year at Sorbonne Université in Paris, where he gained insights into French music and cinema, performing with the Chœur et Orchestre Sorbonne Université and drawing inspiration from composers like Messiaen and Fauré.

Throughout his career, Toby has collaborated with acclaimed musicians and producers at iconic London studios, including Angel Studios. His technical expertise spans DAWs such as Logic Pro and Pro Tools, notation software, and middleware like Wwise, allowing him to create immersive and innovative music and sound design for diverse media. His work has featured in short films, recording sessions, and educational projects, including collaborations with the Welsh National Opera to introduce opera to classrooms.

Inspired by a broad array of influences—from the classical works of Grieg and Rachmaninoff to the cinematic scores of Michael Giacchino and Thomas Newman—Toby’s compositions reflect a rich tapestry of genres and styles.
